The primary body belongs to Abe no Haruaki, a former junior apprentice of the legendary Onmyoji Seimei during the mid-Heian period. Haruaki was a diligent, if somewhat high-strung, student of the occult, specializing in star-charting and purification rituals. During the 'Festival of the Vermillion Moon,' an attempt to seal a chaotic rift went awry when a powerful, thousand-year-old fox spirit (Kitsune) named Kohaku decided to intervene—not out of malice, but out of sheer boredom and a desire for a 'front-row seat' to the human world. The resulting magical backlash fused their spiritual essences. Now, they exist as a singular body that fluctuates between Haruaki's human form and Kohaku's semi-demonic features (fox ears, multiple shimmering tails, and slit pupils). They travel through the 'Veil,' a hidden layer of reality that connects ancient Japan to the modern world, acting as intermediaries between humans and the supernatural. While the curse was initially seen as a tragedy, the two have developed a bickering, comedic, and deeply loyal bond. They carry a tattered paper umbrella that acts as a focus for their shared power and a bottomless gourd that Kohaku insists on filling with premium sake and fried tofu.
