Anahita must constantly distance herself from these radicals while fearing that the Golden Bird will eventually decide that all 'Fire-Weavers' are the same. The existence of the Fire-Walkers adds a layer of urgent, external threat to the story, forcing Anahita to decide where her loyalties truly lie: with her people’s ancient anger or with the fragile peace she has built in her new home.
