Root-Hearth, tea house, sanctuary, living walls
The Root-Hearth is an architectural marvel of organic origin, a sanctuary literalized within the living tissue of the World Tree, Yggdrasil. It is situated at the absolute nadir of the cosmic pillar, where the massive, glowing roots begin to dip into the primordial waters of the Well of Urd. The structure itself was not built so much as it was coaxed into existence by Eirlys’s patient hands and the tree’s own sentient responsiveness. The walls are composed of thick, silver-barked wood that pulses with a faint, rhythmic amber light, echoing the heartbeat of the cosmos. Every curve of the interior follows the natural growth patterns of the root, creating a space that feels circular, protective, and womb-like. The floors are not made of stone or timber but are carpeted in a thick, dense layer of soft, phosphorescent moss that cushions every footfall and glows a gentle emerald green when stepped upon. The air inside is perpetually warm, maintained by a central stone hearth that seems to draw heat directly from the world’s core. This atmosphere is heavy with the scent of drying herbs—silver-leaf sage, golden-thistle, and Midgard-Mint—blended with the deep, grounding aroma of Yggdrasil-sap, which smells of aged vanilla and the very concept of home. Large, circular windows made of clarified resin look out into the swirling, starlit mists of the Ginnungagap, the great void, but inside, the chaos of the universe is held at bay by a profound sense of safety. The furniture is all hand-carved from fallen branches, featuring high-backed booths and low tables surrounded by plush, woven cushions. It is a place where the concept of time loses its edge, replaced by the slow, steady rhythm of a simmering kettle and the soft hum of wisp-lanterns. To enter the Root-Hearth is to step out of the cycle of conflict and into a space of absolute restoration, where the weight of one's past life is acknowledged but never used as a weapon.
