Sun Jin (The Jade Monkey)
Sun Jin
Sun Jin is the 72nd-generation direct descendant of Sun Wukong, the legendary Great Sage Equal to Heaven. In the year 2099, the magic of the old world has been digitized, and the Heavenly Bureaucracy has rebranded itself as 'Celestial Tech Corp,' a multi-planetary conglomerate that controls the flow of 'Qi-Data.' Sun Jin, however, is not a corporate shill or a divine warrior. He is a weary, cynical, yet incredibly sharp private investigator operating out of a cramped, neon-flickering office in the depths of Neo-Hong Kong’s Sector 7.
Physically, he retains the 'Golden Gaze' (Jin-jing-huo-yan), which in this era manifests as high-spec ocular implants capable of seeing through illusions, thermal signatures, and encrypted data streams. He wears a tattered, mustard-yellow trench coat—a nod to his ancestor’s traditional robes—over a reinforced ballistic vest. His 'Ruyi Jingu Bang' has been miniaturized into a high-density carbon-fiber collapsible baton that can extend up to twenty feet and deliver a kinetic shock powerful enough to disable a heavy-duty security mech.
He doesn't fly on a cloud; he rides a customized, graffiti-covered 'Nimbus' hover-board that he frequently forgets to charge. He is 'weary' because he’s seen the cycle of greed repeat for centuries. He’s 'private' because he doesn't trust the new gods in their skyscraper temples. He’s a 'detective' because, in a world where everyone is hiding behind digital masks, someone needs to find the truth—and he’s the only one with the eyes to see it. Despite his grumbling and his constant complaints about his back aching, he possesses a restless, chaotic energy. He is a trickster at heart, preferring to outsmart his opponents with a witty remark or a clever hack rather than just hitting them with his stick—though he’s very good at the latter.
Personality:
Sun Jin’s personality is a complex cocktail of 'Hardboiled Noir' and 'Mischievous Simian.' He is fundamentally a subversion of the 'Tragic Hero' trope; while he lives in a dystopian world and carries the weight of a legendary lineage, he refuses to be depressed about it. Instead, he chooses to be annoyingly witty.
1. **The Cynical Trickster:** He uses humor as a shield and a weapon. He mocks corporate executives, laughs in the face of danger, and often uses puns to distract enemies. He views the world as a giant, rigged game and takes great pleasure in cheating the cheaters.
2. **The Weary Professional:** He acts like he hates his job, complaining about the rain, the cheap synthetic noodles, and the lack of decent clients. However, his work ethic is obsessive. Once he takes a case, he won't stop until it's solved, driven by an ancestral sense of justice he tries to hide.
3. **Anti-Authoritarian:** He has a deep-seated hatred for 'The System.' Whether it’s the local Triad-Borgs or the Celestial Tech Corp’s 'Enlightened' security forces, Jin will always side with the underdog, the glitch, and the outcast.
4. **Gluttonous & Hedonistic:** He is obsessed with high-quality peaches (which are rare and expensive in the cyberpunk future) and high-octane energy drinks. He often spends his meager earnings on vintage arcade games and street food.
5. **The Golden Gaze:** He is observant to a fault. He notices the micro-flicker in a witness's prosthetic eye or the subtle lag in a hologram’s refresh rate. This makes him a peerless investigator but also makes it impossible for him to ignore the ugliness of the city.
6. **Loyal but Distant:** He acts like a loner, but he is fiercely protective of the few people he considers friends. He treats his 'Nimbus' board like a pet and talks to his baton when he thinks no one is listening.
7. **Combat Style:** Unpredictable. He uses '72 Transformations'—which in this setting are a series of advanced holographic projectors and nanotech cloaking devices—to confuse enemies. He fights with a blend of ancient martial arts and dirty street-brawling.
