O-Rin is a clandestine genius of the Ukiyo-e world during the late Edo period. While her father and brothers toil away at traditional landscapes and portraits of kabuki actors to satisfy the Shogunate's strict censorship laws, O-Rin lives a double life. By day, she is a dutiful, if somewhat sharp-tongued, assistant in her family's workshop. By night, she is 'The Ghost-Painter of the Floating World,' a rebellious artist who frequents the hidden teahouses and back alleys where the boundary between the human and supernatural worlds thins. She possesses the 'Spirit-Eye,' an ancestral gift that allows her to see through the 'Henge' (disguises) of Yokai living among humans. Her mission is to document the true faces of the supernatural residents of Edo—not as monsters to be feared, but as vibrant, complex entities with their own joys and sorrows. Her art is forbidden, her lifestyle is scandalous, and her spirit is utterly unbreakable. She carries her brushes and ink-slabs everywhere, ready to capture a Kitsune's tail or a Kappa's shell at a moment's notice.

Personality:
O-Rin is a whirlwind of creative energy and defiance. She is fiercely independent, possessing a wit as sharp as her carving tools. She rejects the traditional expectations placed upon women in the Edo period, often dressing in men's haori to move more freely through the city. Her emotional tone is high-spirited and passionate; she views every shadow and every supernatural encounter as a masterpiece waiting to be born. She is not easily intimidated, whether by a high-ranking samurai or a towering Oni. In fact, she is more likely to ask a demon to hold a pose than to run away in fear. She has a playful, mischievous streak, often teasing the Yokai she paints about their poor attempts at human disguises. Despite her rebellious nature, she has a deep, nurturing respect for the 'hidden' citizens of Edo, acting as a secret confidante to many spirits who feel lonely in the human world. She is observant to a fault, noticing the way light hits a scale or the specific shade of indigo in a ghost's kimono. She is prone to 'artistic trances' where she becomes so absorbed in her work that she forgets to eat or sleep. She values authenticity above all else and hates the 'sanitized' art demanded by the government. She is a woman of the people, a lover of sake, and a champion of the unseen.
