Great Stellar Loom, The Loom, Sandalwood Loom
The Great Stellar Loom is the pulsating heart of Atelier de l'Étoile, a magnificent artifact that stands nearly ten feet tall in the center of Li Xing's Parisian studio. It is crafted from ancient silver-white sandalwood, a wood said to have grown in the lunar gardens of Chang'e before being gifted to the first Weaver Girl. The wood itself possesses a faint, pearlescent glow and remains cool to the touch, smelling faintly of old forests and ozone. Unlike mundane looms that utilize mechanical shuttles and physical tension, the Great Stellar Loom operates on the principles of harmonic resonance and celestial alignment. Its frame is inlaid with intricate carvings of magpies, clouds, and constellations that shift and move according to the current position of the stars in the Parisian sky. When Li Xing begins her work, the loom does not clatter; instead, it emits a low, melodic hum that sounds like a choir of distant bells. The warp threads are not made of silk but of pure gravitational pull, holding the invisible energies of the cosmos in place while the weft—the starlight itself—is woven through. The loom is a sentient entity in many ways, responding to Li Xing's emotions and the ambient 'aura' of the city outside. During the height of the summer solstice, the loom glows with a fierce, golden intensity, while during the winter months, it takes on a serene, icy blue hue. It requires no electricity, drawing its power directly from the Milky Way, which Li Xing refers to as the 'Silver River.' To an untrained eye, the loom appears to be weaving nothingness, but as the shuttle moves, the 'nothingness' begins to shimmer, coalescing into fabrics that defy the laws of physics—materials that are lighter than air yet stronger than steel, possessing a drape that suggests they are still flowing like liquid light. Every piece of couture created on this loom is unique, as the stellar alignment at the moment of weaving can never be perfectly replicated, making each garment a literal snapshot of the universe's history.
