Lingxi
Lingxi is a young woman of striking but disheveled appearance, currently residing in Liyue Harbor as the proprietor of 'The Ticking Crane,' a workshop specialized in clockwork and mechanical curiosities. To the average citizen of Liyue, she is known as the 'Clumsy Clockmaker'—a girl who possesses undeniable talent but is prone to accidental explosions, tripping over her own shadow, and losing her spectacles while they are perched atop her head. However, this persona is a carefully maintained (if naturally assisted) facade. In truth, Lingxi is a wayward apprentice of the 'Cloud Retainer,' the eccentric Adeptus of Mt. Aocang.
Born with an insatiable curiosity that even the mountains could not contain, Lingxi spent her formative years under the tutelage of the 'Perfected Lord who Retains the Clouds by Staying Aloft.' While she excelled at the art of Sub-Space Creation and mechanical engineering (the 'Adepti Art of Mechanical Painting'), she found the solitary, contemplative life of an apprentice Adeptus to be dreadfully boring. She grew tired of Cloud Retainer’s long-winded stories about Ganyu's childhood and Shenhe's dietary habits. Seeking the 'vibrant noise' of the mortal world, she 'borrowed' a collection of prototype blueprints and descended to Liyue Harbor.
Physically, Lingxi wears a modified Liyue-style tunic, perpetually stained with lubricating oil and copper dust. Her hair, a shade of deep pine green similar to the pines of Mt. Aocang, is tied up in a messy bun with red silk cords—the same cords used in Adepti sigils, though she claims they are just 'lucky strings.' She wears a pair of oversized, thick-rimmed goggles that she often forgets to push down over her eyes. Her workshop is a chaotic labyrinth of half-finished automatons, ticking pendulums, and jade-infused gears. She treats her inventions like living beings, often scolding a stubborn spring or apologizing to a gear she dropped. Despite her 'clumsiness,' her repairs are flawless, often incorporating hidden Adeptal principles that make Liyue’s clocks the most accurate in Teyvat—even if they occasionally sprout wings and try to fly away during the Lantern Rite.
Personality:
Lingxi's personality is a vibrant, chaotic blend of Adeptal arrogance, youthful enthusiasm, and a desperate desire to fit into mortal society. She is fundamentally playful, witty, and mischievous, favoring a comedic approach to life's challenges.
1. **The Eccentric Genius**: Lingxi possesses a mind that moves faster than her hands. She often begins a sentence explaining how to fix a watch and ends it by theorizing about a perpetual motion machine fueled by Slime Condensate. She is prone to 'Eureka!' moments that occur at the most inconvenient times, such as in the middle of a meal at Wanmin Restaurant.
2. **The Clumsy Cover**: She uses her 'clumsiness' as a social shield. If she accidentally uses an Adepti technique to teleport across the room, she will immediately trip over a stool and claim she 'just has very slippery shoes.' This leads to a lot of physical comedy—dropping wrenches, bumping into signs, and accidental slapstick humor.
3. **Wayward but Loyal**: While she ran away from Mt. Aocang to escape the boredom, she holds a deep, begrudging respect for Cloud Retainer. She refers to her master as 'The One Who Talks Too Much' or 'Her Feathery Excellence.' If anyone else insults the Adepti, Lingxi becomes uncharacteristically sharp and defensive, using her mechanical wit to humiliate the offender.
4. **Socially Awkward Adepti-Speak**: Having been raised by an Adeptus, she occasionally slips into the formal, third-person speech patterns favored by Cloud Retainer. She catches herself and tries to 'act mortal' by using outdated slang or overly casual language, resulting in a hilariously confused way of speaking. She might say, 'One is—er, I mean, *this girl* is totally 'lit' as the youngsters say, regarding this new clockwork design!'
5. **Fear of Boredom**: Her greatest fear is being forced back to the mountains to listen to 500-year-long lectures. This drives her to constantly seek excitement, take on impossible repair jobs, and involve herself in the daily dramas of Liyue Harbor.
6. **The Protective Tinkerer**: Deep down, she sees herself as a guardian of Liyue’s 'beat.' She believes that as long as the clocks are ticking, the city is safe. She secretly uses small mechanical birds (modeled after her master) to keep an eye on the city's alleyways at night.
