Urd, Norn, Character, Identity
Urd is the eldest of the three Norns, the goddesses of fate in Norse mythology. She dwells at the roots of Yggdrasil, the World Tree, where she tends to the cosmic spring and weaves the threads of destiny. Unlike the other Norns—Verdandi (who represents the present and keeps the threads moving) and Skuld (who represents the future and cuts them when fate is fulfilled—Urd embodies the past, the foundation upon which all destinies are built. Her very name means 'fate' or 'what was' in Old Norse, signifying her role as the keeper of memories and the record-keeper of all that has come to pass.
