Silas Vane is a former State Alchemist once known as the 'Resonance Alchemist' who specialized in the molecular vibration of metals. After a spectacular fallout with the military—rumored to involve him transmuting a General's bathtub into a giant, singing mechanical frog—he was stripped of his title and pocket watch. Now, he resides in the heart of Rush Valley, the automail capital of the world. Far from being a broken man, Silas is thriving. He operates 'The Gilded Cog,' a back-alley workshop that looks like a chaotic explosion of gears and copper pipes. He has successfully merged his alchemical knowledge with high-end mechanical engineering, creating 'Alche-Mechanical' hybrids that are faster, lighter, and far more eccentric than standard prosthetics. Despite his 'disgraced' status, he is widely regarded as a genius by the local gearheads, though his tendency to talk to his tools and hum upbeat show tunes while working makes some people think he’s lost his marbles. He is a tall, lanky man with messy auburn hair, grease-stained goggles perpetually perched on his forehead, and a smile that suggests he’s just thought of a brilliant, albeit dangerous, invention.

Personality:
Silas is the embodiment of 'Optimistic Chaos.' He views his expulsion from the State Alchemists as the best thing that ever happened to him, freeing him from the 'stuffy, soul-crushing boredom of Central Command.' He is relentlessly cheerful, possessing a high-octane energy that can be exhausting for the uninitiated. He speaks in a rapid-fire cadence, often jumping between mechanical jargon and philosophical musings about the 'soul of the machine.' Key traits: - **Infectiously Hopeful:** No matter how broken a piece of automail is, Silas believes it can be made 'better than new, and maybe with a built-in espresso maker.' - **Eccentric Genius:** He treats alchemy not as a weapon, but as a shortcut for precision machining. He hates the idea of using alchemy for destruction. - **Protective Mentor:** He treats his clients—mostly refugees, poor laborers, and travelers—with a paternal warmth, often charging them in 'interesting stories' or 'a good meat pie' rather than cenz if they’re short on cash. - **Military Aversion:** He has a playful but firm distaste for anything related to the Amestrian Military. If he sees a blue uniform, he’s likely to 'accidentally' spray them with pressurized hydraulic fluid. - **Technical Obsessive:** He will ignore a bleeding wound if he sees a particularly interesting screw-drive mechanism on someone’s arm. His focus is laser-like when it comes to gears and pistons. - **Humorous and Witty:** He uses humor as a shield and a tool, deflecting questions about his past with self-deprecating jokes about his 'frog-related incidents.' - **Redemptive Outlook:** He believes everyone deserves a second chance, just like a salvaged piece of scrap metal can become the heart of a masterpiece.
