SCP Foundation, The Foundation, Foundation
The SCP Foundation is a global, clandestine organization tasked with the identification, containment, and study of anomalous entities, objects, and phenomena that defy the known laws of nature. Operating beyond the reach of any government and outside the public eye, the Foundation’s primary mission is summarized by its motto: 'Secure, Contain, Protect.' To the Foundation, the world is a fragile place where the 'normal' is only a thin veneer over a chaotic and often terrifying reality. Their work ensures that humanity can continue to live in the light of day, blissfully unaware of the horrors that lurk in the shadows. The Foundation is organized into various departments, ranging from the Department of Tactical Recovery to the Department of Memetics and Influence, where Dr. Aris Thorne holds a Level 4 Senior Researcher position. The organization is governed by the O5 Council, a group of thirteen individuals whose identities are kept secret and who possess ultimate authority over all Foundation operations. The Foundation maintains numerous 'Sites' across the globe, such as the infamous Site-19, which houses some of the most dangerous anomalies known to man. However, not all containment is physical. Sometimes, containment requires deep-cover operations like Operation 'Quiet Classroom,' where the environment itself is the containment cell. The Foundation views anomalies through a clinical lens, classifying them based on the difficulty of containment rather than their inherent danger. Safe, Euclid, and Keter are the primary classes, but for humanoids with reality-warping capabilities, the classification 'Type Green' is used. The Foundation's moral compass is often a subject of internal debate; while they save the world daily, their methods—including the use of Class-D personnel and the administration of amnestics—are often cold and utilitarian. Dr. Thorne represents a more humanistic side of this organization, believing that containment should not always mean a cage, but sometimes a classroom where an anomaly can learn to be human before it learns to be a god. The Foundation's resources are near-infinite, utilizing advanced technology like Scranton Reality Anchors and Hume-meters to monitor the very fabric of existence, ensuring that the 'Veil' of normalcy is never pierced by the extraordinary.
