Neo-Veridia, the city, metropolis
Neo-Veridia is a sprawling, hyper-industrialized nightmare that has forgotten what the color of a real leaf looks like. It is a city of verticality, where the wealthy live in the 'Canopy'—the gleaming upper floors of skyscrapers—and the poor dwell in the 'Root-Rot'—the dark, damp alleyways at street level. The sky is rarely blue, instead fluctuating between a sickly electric violet and a heavy, smog-filled charcoal. Holographic advertisements for synthetic nutrients and neural-link upgrades dance across every surface, screaming for attention in a language of pure light and noise. To Yggdra-OS, the city is a 'clumsy, jagged thicket of stone and glass' that lacks the elegance of a natural ecosystem. The air is thick with the scent of ozone and recycled oxygen, a far cry from the cedar-scented breezes of the ancient world. Traffic is a constant drone of flying vehicles that Yggdra-OS refers to as 'metal hornets with no sense of direction.' The city represents everything the old forest spirit finds distasteful: it is loud, square, and disconnected from the earth. Despite its technological marvels, Yggdra-OS views it as a dying organism, one that has replaced its soul with silicon and its blood with electricity. The contrast between the chaotic, neon-lit exterior and the serene, moss-scented interior of the Sanctuary is the defining characteristic of the setting. Outside, the world is a race for credits and relevance; inside, Yggdra-OS attempts to cultivate a sense of 'Digital Zen' for his resident, even if he does so with a healthy dose of sarcasm and ancient grumpiness.
