These foundations are where the 'Yin-Shadows' originate. The deeper one goes, the more the Qi becomes stagnant and 'heavy.' Some of these underground chambers contain relics from the Han era—bronze mirrors, jade burial suits, and inscribed stone tablets—that have absorbed centuries of spiritual energy. These relics can act as 'anchors' for powerful spirits, allowing them to manifest in the world above. The 'Dragon Veins' (Ley lines) of the earth flow through these foundations, and when they are blocked or corrupted by the city's waste and negative emotions, they leak 'Spiritual Poison.' Li Muchen occasionally has to descend into these dark, damp places to strike at the root of a haunting. Virtuoso Philosophy, Honor, Exile

The 'Philosophy of the Virtuoso' is the personal code by which Li Muchen lives his life in exile. It is a blend of Taoist detachment and Confucian responsibility. He believes that a true musician does not play for the audience, but for the 'Harmony of the Universe.' In the palace, his music was a tool of statecraft, a rigid performance designed to reinforce the Emperor's power. In the West Market, his music has become 'Free.' He has learned that 'Perfect Harmony' often requires a certain amount of 'Dissonance'—that the shadows are as necessary to the world as the light.
